The City of Passaic celebrated the life and legacy of chef Carl Ruiz through a street renaming.
Myrtle Avenue between Madison Avenue and Henry Street is now called Chef Ruiz Way.
Known as “The Cuban,” Ruiz was a classically trained chef whose dishes graced many kitchens across New Jersey.
The Passaic native went on to own several restaurants and become a celebrity chef judge on the Food Network.
He died at 44 years old in 2019.
