Gov. Chris Christie's trip to the beach during the government shutdown has inspired legislation that could benefit residents in a big way.

One bill would allow the governor's beach house to be rented to the public. Another suggests banning the use of the home by any governor during a shutdown.

Both bills are sponsored by Assemblyman John Wisniewski, who is running for governor.

Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno has even suggested that the house be sold outright.

The proposals come on the heels of Christie being spotted using the house during the state shutdown which subsequently closed Island Beach State Park, where the house is located.

If the bill passes, it would affect future governors, since Christie’s term ends in January.

The beach house property dates back to 1929.
