Christie trades barbs with caller on WFAN
Gov. Chris Christie had an eventful first day filling in for Mike Francesa on WFAN’s sports radio program.
The governor took to the airways Monday afternoon, talking about everything from sports to New Jersey politics and President Donald Trump.
Various New Jersey constituents called in to the show to express their disapproval of several things the governor has done over the years.
At one point, Christie got into it with a man known as “Mike from Montclair.”
“Next time you want to sun on a beach that is closed to the entire world except you, you put your fat (expletive) in a car and drive to one that’s open to all your constituents,” Mike said, referring to photos of Christie and his family taken on the closed Island Beach State Park beach during the government shutdown.
“I love getting calls from communists in Montclair,” the governor responded.
The two argued for several seconds before Christie hung up on Mike.
“What I just did is stop polluting the airways with a guy like that,” Christie said after hanging up.
The governor is auditioning as a possible replacement for Francesa.
Christie’s turn on the airways comes on the same day a Monmouth University poll found that the governor has only a 15 percent approval rating. The poll also found that most New Jersey residents think that the state is worse off since Christie became governor.
Christie will again fill in for Francesa on Tuesday. The station says Christie's appearances Monday and Tuesday are an audition as the station seeks a replacement for Francesa, who is leaving this year.
