More than 200 million eggs that were sold under various name brands are being recalled due to salmonella concerns.
The Food and Drug Administration says the eggs were sold in nine states, including New York and New Jersey. They were distributed by Rose Acre Farms, and were sold under multiple brand names, including Coburn Farms, Country Daybreak, Food Lion, Glenview, Nelms, Sunshine Farm, and Great Value -- a brand which is sold at Walmart stores.
According to the FDA, 22 illnesses have been reported so far.
MORE INFORMATION: FDA website
The FDA's website includes a list of carton UPC codes that consumers can check. It says the affected eggs are from plant number P-1065 with the date range of 011 through 102.
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
"Consumers with these eggs shouldn't eat them," FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said in a tweet. "Throw them away or return them to place of purchase for credit or refund."
