Two New Jersey state troopers are being called heroes for saving the life of a man who was having a heart attack.

The life-or-death situation was all captured on the police cruiser’s dashboard camera. 

The troopers were patrolling the Garden State Parkway and responded to a driver who was having a medical emergency. Trooper Chris Herman and Patrol Sergeant Karen Fahy found 61-year-old Don Ertle of Bayville in the middle of the Parkway median in South Toms River.

The two officers began performing CPR in order revive Ertle, who was unconscious at the time.

Paramedics eventually arrived and rushed Ertle to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. He was released a few days later and is expected to make a full recovery.

Both trooper say that they don’t feel like heroes, because they were just doing their job. They credit their training for helping to save the man’s life.

Sergeant Fahy says that this was the first time in her 13 years working for the state police that she ever had to perform CPR.
