A Bronx woman competing for the title of “Miss New York USA” says she is hoping to use the stage to make a difference in mental health awareness.
Shavanna Clark says she is highlighting mental health after struggles of her own. She says she wants to highlight the difficulties faced by the Black and queer communities.
The competition will be held in August, but she says preparation is already underway.
Clark will be competing in the interview, swimsuit and evening gown portions of the pageant.
She says she was inspired by the current Miss Universe to get back on stage after competing when she was younger.
