Bertha raises risk for rip currents at NJ Shore
Lifeguards at the Jersey Shore have their hands full Monday thanks to strong rip currents that claimed the life of three swimmers over the weekend. The storm-driven waves, spurred by Tropical Storm Bertha, forced the closure of beaches in Belmar Sunday. Now, all four New Jersey coastal counties -- Monmouth, Ocean, Atlantic and Cape May -- are being warned to look out for the dangerous rip currents. In Bradley Beach, lifeguards made nearly 30 rescues Saturday, which prompted swimming restrictions on Sunday. ?The ideal thing is just not to panic and be aware of your surroundings and if it takes you, you have to go with it for a little bit and then try to get out of it,? said Matt Munoz of Belmar.Lifeguards in Bradley Beach expect to see similar conditions for a few more days.Bertha whips up waves and surf along the Jersey Shore
