An Edison school cafeteria woman celebrated her 95th birthday Thursday, and the community at J.P. Stevens High School threw her a party.
Evelyn Kiss has been working at the school since it opened 51 years ago. Her co-workers say she never misses a day of work.
"She knows the students. She gets to know them by name," says Principal Gail Pawlikowski. "They come back and talk to her."
Kiss started working on the cash register when she first started the job, and has been able to keep up with all the changes in technology.
"I think the young people make you feel alive," she says. "When I'm not working, I'm not comfortable."
Students and staff at J.P. Stevens say her work ethic inspires them, and they look to her for advice.
When asked about her secret to a long and happy life, Kiss says to "put your heart on what you want to do and just never, ever give up."
Kiss has 4 children, 13 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
