Getting a dog in the family can be a special day for many, but for one Bayville family, it may also be a lifesaver.
Deven Rusnak, 13, suffers from Type 1 Diabetes and also suffers from hypoglycemic unawareness, meaning he can?t sense when his blood sugar is too high or too low.
But the family's new dog, Blaze, is trained to sense blood sugar abnormalities in Deven.
Having Blaze means the family will no longer have to check Deven's blood sugar more than 12 times a day, including when he is sleeping.
