The New Jersey Office of the Attorney General has released the identity of the man shot and killed by police in Morris County Tuesday afternoon.
The man was identified as 24-year-old Timothy O’Shea.
Authorities say that Morris Township police were responding to a 911 call on Fairchild Avenue around 4:15 p.m. The caller reported that a person inside the home had cut himself and had a gun.
The attorney general says that when police arrived, they found the 911 caller and brought that person to safety. They then encountered O’Shea, who was bleeding and holding a pistol. During the encounter, one of the officers fired his gun at O’Shea.
Witnesses tell News 12 New Jersey that they heard four gunshots.
O’Shea was taken to Morristown Medical Center and was pronounced dead.
The attorney general says that the gun that O’Shea was holding was a replica Beretta 9 mm Airsoft pistol.
