A body found floating in a Cape May County waterway has been identified as a man who went missing earlier this month after he swam out in a bid to rescue two family members.
A fisherman found the body of 24-year-old Jabed Ikbal, of Clementon, Saturday morning in the Great Egg Harbor Inlet, south of the Ocean City-Longport Bridge near Ocean City.
Ikbal was reported missing on July 12, shortly after he had gone in to the inlet when family members started struggling in the strong currents. The two family members made it safely back to shore, but Ikbal soon disappeared from view.
The inlet is closed to swimming. No lifeguards were present at the time.
Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
