Are New Jersey’s millennials too overworked and stressed out?
A new article by Buzzfeed claims that millennials are feeling stressed out, overworked and can’t do their day-to-day tasks because they are burnt out.
The writer of the article "How Millennials Became The Burnout Generation" explains how societal expectations, financial concerns and grooming in childhood have caused some people from their early 20s to mid-30s to experience "errand paralysis" -- or the inability to complete things like registering to vote or cleaning up their emails.
But is this how New Jersey’s millennial generation feels? News 12 New Jersey spoke to some young adults around New Brunswick to find out.
"I think it's just harder for millennials to achieve the same level of self-sufficiency that an older generation might have been able to do,” says Priya Pamnani of South Brunswick. “We have this expectation that we can graduate from college and just get a job immediately. But a lot of times, those jobs don't pay us nearly enough."
"I'm pre-med, so I have to keep up a high GPA, I have to be in clubs, make sure to do my internships,” says Joseph Arriola of South River. "It's definitely overwhelming between studying and like doing other activities."
But others say that they are too young for this type of burned out mentality.
“As someone who is a millennial, I don't agree with that because a lot of us are just started getting into the workforce. How are you already experiencing burnout in such a short amount of time, with so much time to work as well?” asks Keith Washington of Piscataway.
