The NYPD has given the all-clear after a threatening phone call prompted the evacuation of Liberty Island and the Statue of Liberty.

According to the National Park Service, just after 11 a.m. someone called in a bomb threat to 911 stating they were going to blow up the statue. It was immediately evacuated of all visitors and personnel.

While conducting a sweep for suspicious items, a National Park Police dog alerted its handler about a potential threat near the lockers at the base of the Statue.

This then prompted the evacuation of the rest of the island. 

Hundreds of visitors were herded to the ferry landing. Photos taken by Twitter users showed large crowds waiting to evacuate.

The Park Service said in a statement Friday afternoon that all visitors and personnel were safe. No bomb was found.

Liberty Island will be open once again to tourists Saturday.
