AG probing 3 chains for allegedly cheating customers
Three popular retail chains are under investigation by state Attorney General Anne Milgram, accused of cheating consumers.
Milgram says shoppers of Target, Wal-Mart and Drug Fare have reason to be concerned, calling all three of them repeat offenders.
"We inspected 84 stores and in every single store we found violation of [the] consumer fraud act or bicycle helmet act or other state laws," says Milgram.
Milgram's office is suing the chains. She says the retailers were guilty of other accusations as well, such as selling expired items and charging different prices at checkouts then were posted.
Among the alleged expired items being sold were baby formula and over-the-counter medicine.
"It becomes a safety issue when pharmacies are out selling items that are expired," she says.
A spokesperson for Wal-Mart says customers can return any expired merchandise. Drug Fare says it is cooperating with the investigation, and a representative from Target says the company is reviewing stocking and pricing procedures.
