AAA of New Jersey is pushing lawmakers to pass a comprehensive driver distraction bill to accompany the new cell phone regulation for motorists.
AAA believes other activities commonly practiced by drivers are a serious road hazard. The organization is asking politicians to consider legislation to ban eating, reading and personal grooming while behind the wheel.
"I have seen people who brush their hair, put makeup on ? I have seen men shaving. You know there are all sorts of things people do behind the wheel because we spend so much time in our cars," says AAA representative Michelle Mount.
Other motorists say distracted drivers provide a real scare to those who are focused with both hands on the wheel and both eyes on the road.
"It is quite frightening to see really," says Madison resident Ron Bendelius.
