77 positive COVID-19 tests traced back to New Jersey lab re-run overnight, come back negative

The NFL and its teams are taking a second look at some coronavirus testing results that have all been traced back to the same laboratory in New Jersey – BioReference. Tests that came back positive may not actually be.

The NFL and its teams are taking a second look at some coronavirus testing results that have all been traced back to the same laboratory in New Jersey – BioReference.

Seventy-seven test results from 11 teams are under investigation. The Jets said they had 10 false positive tests, the Minnesota Vikings 12, and the Chicago Bears nine. All 77 tests that were re-run at the lab overnight came back negative.

In a statement, the NFL said, "Saturday's daily COVID testing returned several positive tests from each of the clubs serviced by the same laboratory in New Jersey. We are working with our testing partner, BioReference, to investigate these results, while the clubs work to confirm, or rule out the positive tests."
The Jets canceled a walk-through Sunday night, and did have a full practice after the false positive tests came back. The Philadelphia Eagles also held out a handful of players from a workout. Other teams made adjustments to practice based on the test results.
