The large amount of rain headed our way will not be enough to get North Jersey out of its drought warning.

Officials say that 14 counties remain under the drought warning.

According to officials, the region will need more rain for a longer period to prevent spiraling into a drought emergency.

"It's kind of scary," says Ringwood resident Carl Rossi. "I fish here every once in a while, and nature is nature, but it's a little scary."



The North Jersey District Water Commission, which oversees the Wanaque Reservoir, says it is 29 billion gallons short of water right now. 



The DEP already issued the drought warning, which means water can be moved from elsewhere. 

The commission has been transferring from rivers and the Monksville Reservoir. The drought emergency would have to come from Gov. Chris Christie, which would mean mandatory restrictions.

To avoid that, officials say the region will need rain every week as well as a wet winter and plenty of spring storms.



"We should all conserve whenever we can," says Rossi. "We've been doing that for a while ever since we saw this thing go down a year ago."
