October freeze: Parts of northern New Jersey see first snow of the season
As temperatures began to drop around New Jersey early Friday morning, people in parts of northern New Jersey woke up to the first snowfall of the season.
Towns like Mount Olive, Netcong, North Arlington and Roxbury saw a dusting of snow as temperatures dipped into the 30s and 40s – surprising many who lived there.
“It’s kind of crazy. I didn’t think it would snow today. It’s not even November yet. Right before Halloween, kind of sucks,” says Julian Santiago of Mount Olive.
But it has snowed in October previously in New Jersey. A major snowstorm even came through the state back in 2011, dropping several inches of snow on the ground. There wasn’t too much snow this time around.
Temperatures are expected to drop even further late Friday night going in Saturday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a freeze warning for parts of the state until late Saturday morning.
