We aren't done with winter yet. Temperatures are expected to dip again going into the weekend and early next week. The weekend marks the beginning of meteorological spring. For the record, meteorological spring is March, April, May. The vernal equinox (the official start to spring, when the sun's rays are directly over the equator and slowly begins its warming journey into the northern hemisphere) is Thursday, March 20.
When we hear spring, we immediately think of warmer, sunnier days. The reality is that while the days are longer, the weather is quite volatile. One day it's 45 and overcast, the next it's sunny and 70, the next it's cloudy with snow. Such is the equilibrium the Earth tries to attempt at as the sun tries to warm the air, with cold air still very much present.
Rain expected tonight and will likely last through Thursday mornings commute into work and school. You should probably allow for a little extra time in the morning routine to deal with some weather-related delays. Despite the cloud cover and passing showers, the temps are expected to climb to the upper 50s and possibly lower 60s.
Winds will pick up behind the rain late Thursday into Friday. Those winds bring a cooler change for Friday afternoon. Highs will only be in the mid to upper 40s. We will see-saw back up to the 50s on Saturday, only to plunge into the 30s for Sunday and Monday. Welcome to meteorological spring. March madness isn't just for college basketball.
