A group of young students strapped on their helmets and rode their tricycles for a fundraiser at a Bronx school Tuesday.
More than 100 preschoolers at the New York Institute of Special Education raised money for St. Jude's Research Hospital.
Excitement was in the air as kids 3 through 5 in the Readiness Program participated in the school's annual Trike-a-thon.
Parents, teachers and staff sponsored each of the riders, and the money raised will help children with cancer at the hospital.
Last year, the event raised over $1,200.
Students were masked and usually parents are present to cheer them on, but the school decided to keep the event just to staff with COVID-19 cases on the rise.
Staff members said this is an event they look forward to every year.
"It's important that when they're young we teach them to they can do something for others. Even our families have sent in money to help. I just think it's nice for the whole the community," said Readiness Program principal Nancy Finkel.
Students at the school have been riding for a cause for over 20 years.
