The Long Island Jewish community stands united with Jersey City in the wake of Tuesday's attack that killed six people, including the two shooters.
Members of the Jewish community say they are on guard following the shooting and other anti-Semitic events on the island.
Over the weekend, a man went on an alleged anti-Semitic rant in the Costco in Lawrence and threatened to kill Jews. He was arrested and charged with aggravated harassment and menacing as a hate crime.
Jewish leaders say the increase in hate crimes and attacks recently on Long Island is disturbing.
"This is not something that's brand-new for any means on Long Island, it's still just scary," says Mindy Pearlmutter, of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Long Island. "And when you see an incident like what happened in New Jersey, everybody gets their guard up even more."
Jewish leaders say education and tolerance is key in reducing tensions.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has ordered stepped up patrols by state troopers at synagogues and Jewish establishments.
