State to open 2 pop-up COVID-19 vaccination sites at Long Island churches

On Tuesday, New York State will open two new pop-up vaccination sites.
The new sites are designed to make sure Long Islanders in minority communities get access to the COVID-19 shot.
St. Hugh of Lincoln Church in Huntington Station is one place that will be transformed into a pop-up vaccination site. Already - all 250 vaccine appointments have been filled.
The other vaccination site will be at Memorial Presbyterian in Roosevelt.
Tracey Edwards, the Long Island regional director of the NAACP, says there is a general mistrust of the vaccine in the Black community.
“There's history behind it, we just have to double down on awareness and educational tools so that those people who have reservation get more information to make a decision based on science,” says Edwards.
Pop-up locations will also be established at other public housing complexes as well as 300 churches statewide.
