PUMP PATROL: Gas prices slowly shifting downward ahead of holiday travel

If you are going to fill up your gas tank, you might be in for a nice surprise - gas prices are slowly shifting downward.

The downward trend comes just as the holiday travel season begins.
The national average for a gallon of regular sits at $3.77. In New York the average is $3.90 a gallon, while Long Island is at $3.83.
The national average is down about 3 cents from last week. However, the Long Island average is down slightly over the past couple of days, but still up 34 cents from this time last month.
