Long Island. As we prepare to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (which begins
later this week), Long Island is marking a historic milestone – its first
Latino plurality state Senate district.
The newly drawn 4th Senate District gives
a voice to the historically underserved Hispanic community. Latinos account for
43% of the population – the largest group by demographic in this district.
The Senate district covers many
communities across the northern portions of the Town of Babylon and the Town of
Islip, including Brentwood and Central Islip.
Not
only will the district have a new face, but we also know that the senator who
represents this district next year will be a Latina woman.
Former
state Sen. Monica Martinez and Republican businesswoman Wendy Rodriguez are
running for the seat – and they joined Rich Barrabi
this week on Power & Politics.
