At least five Suffolk County business have been hit by smash-and-grab burglaries so far this January.

An IHOP on Portion Road in Ronkonkoma is the latest victim. The restaurant's side door still needs to be repaired after police say a thief broke the glass early Tuesday and stole money.

Co-owner of Mayra's Bakery in Lake Grove, Amenhofis Ruiz, has had his business broken into twice. The most recent one happened on Jan. 16 and the first was on Oct. 2.

"The guy looked exactly the same," Ruiz says. "He came through the same path that he took the last time, and he broke the same window. He took a rock, threw it at it, and he took the same thing he did before."

Hummus Mediterranean in Holbrook also had its door smashed twice.

Both business owners are considering taking security into their own hands so it doesn't happen again.

"The only thing that's left is putting in those metal things they use in the city," says co-owner of Hummus Mediterranean, Tony Mavruk. "And our store is in the middle of Holbrook, it's a beautiful town. I feel like doing that, it just doesn't look right."

Police are not saying if there is a solid connection between the cases.

No arrests have been made in any of the cases.
