Saint Francis Hospital was offering vaccines at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church.
An internal document from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that the delta variant of the coronavirus is more contagious and severe - which may be causing more people to want to get vaccinated.
Officials say that over 18,000 people were vaccinated Thursday in the state. That number jumped to over 84,000 Friday.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone says now more than 70% of Suffolk residents are vaccinated, but the postivity rate is continuing to climb due to the virus mutation.
Nassau County Executive Laura Curran tells News 12 while the county has the highest vaccination rate in the state, she is urging residents, especially public-facing workers, to get vaccinated.
The CDC also revised its guidance for wearing masks Tuesday, advising everyone, regardless of vaccination status, to wear face coverings indoors in public places.
