Man accused of armed robbery at Trumbull Mall, police standoff appears in court

A man accused of an armed robbery at the Trumbull Mall that led to a police chase and a six-hour standoff made his first appearance in court Monday.
Eddie Lynch appeared in Bridgeport court by video, now charged with several offenses. They include robbery, larceny and criminal possession of a handgun, as well as attempted murder of a police officer.
The incident began around 7 p.m. Friday, when Lynch allegedly went into a Zale's jewelry store with a gun.
Trumbull police say he used the weapon to break a glass display case, at which time the gun went off once.
They tell News 12 that Lynch grabbed several gold chains and then took off with officers in pursuit.
The chase didn't last long - Lynch crashed not far from the mall at the intersection of Madison Avenue and Anton Street in Bridgeport.
"I was in my room and all I hear is boom and I was like 'what is that?' I look out the window and I see a car... like the front is all messed up," says Miracle Dallas, of Bridgeport.
Bridgeport police soon surrounded the area and began negotiating with Lynch.
"We came out the driveway and then we were looking around trying to figure out what was going on. Then one of the cops was like, 'Go inside, it's not safe,'" says Jazlyn Negron.
Ralph Dallas says he spent six hours on the outskirts of the scene - unable to get home because roads remained blocked.
"I was actually right behind the family of the suspect," he says. "I was standing directly behind them as everything was unfolding. It was very emotional for them because they were trying to negotiate with him."
Police say there were some tense moments with Lynch firing his gun at officers at least once.
No one was hit. Just after 1 a.m., Lynch surrendered to police.
The judge set Lynch's bond at $850,000. News 12 also learned that he has an active arrest warrant for a domestic violence incident in New Haven.
