Researchers say Latinos are at a higher risk of developing the Alzheimer's disease than white people.

Alzheimer's Association community educator Maria Canales says Hispanics are about 1.5 times more likely to develop Alzheimer's. She also says they get worse care on average than white patients.

Researchers say 20% of the U.S. identifies as Hispanic, but only about 1% are participating in clinical trials.

Dr. Christian Salazar is looking for subjects for the AHEAD Study, which aims to identify and treat Alzheimer's before the disease sets in.

Local experts say better representation in research will make better cures.

Funds raised over the next month will help with the next round of Alzheimer's study.
