In an effort to raise awareness and to deter thefts of catalytic converter, Doyle’s Automotive along with the New Milford Police Department hosted a free event for New Milford residents on Saturday.
Ryan Doyle, of Doyle's Automotive, says thefts are on the rise.
"It's happening more and more…probably would say once a week at this point," he said.
Doyle’s automotive will etch the vehicles license plate numbers into the catalytic converters and spray-paint them with bright high temperature paint. Police then recorded the names and license plates of those participating, enabling junk yards who receive these stolen catalytic converters to report it to the authorities and, in turn, track down the thieves.
Doyle’s Automotive hopes that this event encourages other communities to hold similar events.
