Lawyers for former Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that they have submitted an application to alter the state attorney general’s report that accused him of sexual harassment in August.
Attorney Rita Glavin is taking a direct aim at Attorney General Letitia James and says her report alleging sexual harassment and a hostile work environment in the Cuomo administration was partly motivated by James’ own political ambitions--including as a potential primary challenger to Cuomo in 2022, which Glavin claims led to her overstepping her authorization in the investigation.
Attorneys for Cuomo are now asking the attorney general's office to either end its criminal investigation into the former governor or recuse themselves.
They are also asking to appoint an independent reviewer, as they say was required from the start, to oversee the report.
Originally released on Aug. 3 after two outside lawyers spent almost five months investigating, Glavin said Wednesday that the report is “materially misleading, flawed and unreliable.”
This is something she detailed in her 150-page letter, leading to Wednesday’s request to as she says to “correct, amend and supplement” the accusations.
James responded to the claims by releasing a statement saying, “Another day, another baseless attack by the former governor who resigned so he didn't have to participate in an impeachment hearing....we will not be bullied into shutting down this investigation."
