Gov. Ned Lamont and the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut announced a new initiative Monday to combat homelessness.

The United Way will allocate $100,000 to an assistance program for those in need of housing, with the goal of helping over 100 families.

"In the meantime, we just need more housing, we need more affordable housing and we're building more affordable housing right now than anytime in the last 10 or 15 years but that's not enough," Lamont said.

The United Way supports housing, employment and education efforts for the state's unhoused population.
