Homes in Belmar were temporarily evacuated Monday morning after construction crews struck two separate gas lines.

Officials say the first incident happened near 5th Avenue and East Street. Homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution.

A second incident happened on the 100 block of 4th Avenue. Another crew struck a different gas line. Buildings in that area were also evacuated as a precaution.

New Jersey Natural Gas was at both scenes making repairs.

Residents were allowed back in their homes a short time later.
