A suspect in a carjacking grabbed an officer's gun while restrained inside a Union County police station and fatally shot himself, prosecutors say.
Authorities say Jermaine Covington, 41, of Baltimore, had fled after a traffic accident Friday afternoon.
He was later arrested after allegedly trying to carjack another vehicle.
Covington was apparently handcuffed inside the processing area at the Hillside police department when prosecutors say he grabbed an officer’s gun from a holster and fatally shot himself.
