Ronald McNair Academic High School in Jersey City is the only Garden State school named to a Newsweek list of the top 100 public high schools in the country.
McNair's principal, Ed Slattery, says it starts with students with exceptional references and high PSAT scores. Slattery credits everyone for the school's success, however.
"I think we have a strong staff committed to students," says Slattery. "We have a student body that comes to be challenged, and we have a parent group that is very supportive of our efforts."
In different magazine surveys, McNair has been ranked 30th, 15th and most recently, first by New Jersey Monthly Magazine.
