Newly renovated Hinchliffe Stadium hosts first baseball game in 26 years
The newly renovated Hinchliffe Stadium hosted its first baseball game in 26 years.
The New Jersey Jackals played against the Sussex County Miners. For the past 25 years, the Jackals played in the Yogi Berra Stadium in Montclair. From now on, the Hinchliffe Stadium field will be the team’s home.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the historic stadium took place on Friday.
Mayor Andre Sayegh played a large role in getting the stadium renovated and ready for use before the game.
“Not many cities across the country can say they have a professional baseball team playing in a historic stadium. A stadium that stands out because it was one of only two in the country that hosted negro league fames when African Americans were excluded from playing in baseball,” he said.
