A Monmouth County judge has denied a request to reduce bail for Phillip Seidle, a former Neptune police officer accused of fatally shooting his ex-wife last month.

Seidle's attorneys asked to reduce his $2 million bail to $350,000, which would allow him a chance to be free while awaiting a decision by the grand jury.

Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor Marc Lemieux argued against allowing Seidle to be free.

"This defendant is no longer a police officer. He doesn't deserve any type of consideration for that at this point in time," says Lemieux. "He is a cold-blooded killer."

Seidle allegedly pursued his ex-wife Tamara in his car in a chase that ended in Asbury Park. He allegedly shot her several times in front of the couple's 7-year-old daughter. He then allegedly held the gun to his own head and got into a 30-minute standoff with responding police officers before being taken into custody.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office also revealed that the office would seek life in prison without parole for Seidle.
