Two men and 15-year-old boy are recovering in the hospital after gunshots rang out on E 140th St. late Monday evening.
Police say they responded to a call of a shooting outside of 489 E 140th St. at around 10:04 p.m.
Neighbors tell News 12, more than 20 people were gathered outside of a community garden watching the Knicks game. The cheers turned into chaos when gunfire erupted down E 140th St.
Police say they found the teenager shot in the right leg, a 20-year-old man shot in the left thigh, and a 30-year-old man also shot in the right leg.
The three victims were taken Lincoln Hospital and are expected to make a full recovery.
Bethzayda says her grandson was the teen struck by the bullet. "Last night they rushed him into surgery. The bullet damaged his knee."
She says the family is now frightened for their safety, "this is the first time something like that happens in the family. So, it’s like crazy."
Sources tell News 12 two people of interest are in custody, and two firearms were recovered at the crime scene.
According to police data, gun violence in the neighborhood has increased over the past month, from one incident reported in 2025 to five incidents reported this year.
Police tape hanging onto the gate of a neighborhood playground is a stark reminder for neighbors of the violence they live through each day.
"I’m worried because I have a 17-year-old son. Every time summer starts, this area turns violent," said one neighbor, Luis.
The investigation into what led up to the frightening incident continues Tuesday morning. It's unclear if the two people in custody will face any charges.
