Special election to be held to fill late Rep. Donald Payne’s seat in Congress

The filing deadline for the special primary will be 4 p.m. on May 10.

A special election will be held to fill the seat of the late U.S. Rep. Donald Payne, Jr.
Gov. Phil Murphy issued a writ of election to fill the vacancy for the remaining few months of the congressman’s sixth term.
A special primary will be held on July 16 and the election will be held on Sept. 18. The filing deadline for the special primary will be 4 p.m. on May 10.
Payne was laid to rest on Thursday after dying from a heart attack at the age of 65.
