As many prepare to travel during the Thanksgiving holiday, ongoing terror threats have forced the U.S. State Department to issue a worldwide travel alert.
The department said this week that the Islamic State group continues to plan terror attacks.
A statement from the department reads: "U.S. citizens should exercise vigilance when in public places or using transportation. Be aware of immediate surroundings and avoid large crowds or crowded places."
Some people traveling during the holiday say they feel safe. Priscilla Grandel, of Red Bank, and her daughter are going to Paris, where 130 people were killed in a terror attack earlier this month. However, she argues that the city will be safe given the extra precautions taken in the aftermath of the attack.
"I think Paris is the safest place on Earth right now," Grandel said. "The Parisians want us to come and they're welcoming tourists, there's a lot of security so we will be safe."
Others acknowledged the danger but say they're trying not to dwell on it.
"I don't think so much about it. I just think everyone is acting normal and I'm being normal," said Marcus Astvald, who is visiting New York City from Sweden.
New Jersey Homeland Security Director Christopher Rodriguez said people should be careful but still enjoy the holiday.
"People should live their lives and not be paranoid of what's going on around the world," he said.
He added that the most important thing people can do is to report suspicious behavior to the authorities.
