Convoys of truckers are
reportedly planning to embark on several U.S. cities this week, including the
nation's capital.
The White House says the
administration has a planned response if that happens.
"We've actually been
monitoring this closely,” says White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki. “The
Department of Homeland Security and the administration are tracking reports of
a potential convoy that may be planning to travel to several U.S. cities,
including Washington, D.C. We have been working, including from Dr. Liz
Sherwood-Randall here, as well as our Homeland Security Department, with
closely with our federal, state and local partners to continuously assess the
threat environment and keep our communities safe."
The Department of Defense
says it’s considering a request for the National Guard
to help law enforcement in Washington, D.C.
One group in New Jersey says
it’s planning to gather next week and start traveling around the state, while
others will be traveling through New Jersey and head down to D.C.
