A water main break in Middlesex County left several businesses without water Wednesday and tied up traffic for a while.
The break happened around 6 a.m. on Main Street near Route 18 in Spotswood.
Officials with Spotswood Public Works say that the break most likely occurred because the water was so cold and the pipes underground are relatively warm.
“The pipes just crack. They got a nice clean crack, so what the guys are doing now, they've isolated the break, exposed the pipe and they're cleaning it up and they’re going to put a repair sleeve on it,” said Fred Walker with the department.
Traffic around the area was diverted for a time, causing some traffic delays.
