Hundreds of volunteers chipped in Saturday to help clean up the Jersey Shore. An army of about 700 volunteers, made up mostly of students from various schools in the state, participated in this year's Spring Beach Sweeps. Volunteers found bottles, snack wrappers, feminine products and other types of trash. "It?s amazing because there is so much garbage, and I don't know, I am just shocked. I never imagined it like this," one volunteer described. Spring Beach Sweep serves two purposes: to clean the beach and to analyze what type of garbage people are leaving behind. To do this, volunteers documented everything they found. They discovered the most common litter was plastic caps, lids, candy wrappers and pieces of plastic. Experts say this information is key to battle the never-ending pollution problem.
