Volunteers will be going to door-to-door at all 18,000 homes in Newark that have been identified as having lead service lines.

They will be passing out water and look to sign up families to replace their lead service lines for free.

The volunteers will be out on weekdays from 6 to 8 p.m., and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

They'll also have a phone banking operation out of the Office of Emergency Management.

It's part of the $120 million plan to replace the lead service lines over the next few years.

Mayor Ras Baraka said about the volunteer efforts, "The city of Newark is working aggressively to solve our water issue once and for all by replacing every lead service line... I thank all the volunteers for stepping up to help their neighbors as part of this community-wide effort."
