Officials: Route 22 eastbound reopens after shipping container explosion in Union Township

A boat inside a shipping container caught fire in Union Township, according to the Chief of Township of Union Fire Department.

All lanes reopened Monday on Route 22 eastbound after a tractor-trailer fire, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

A boat inside a shipping container caught fire in Union Township, according to the Chief of Township of Union Fire Department. There were reports of a tractor-trailer exploding prior to the firefighter’s arrival.
Route 22 east closed at around 7:30 a.m. for several hours as crews worked on the scene.
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.
