Triple shooting that killed teen, injured 2 others leaves South Bronx shaken

A community is mourning the death of 16-year-old Angellyh Yambo after she was caught in a crossfire Friday afternoon near the corner of Saint Ann Avenue and East 156th Street in the Bronx.
Yambo was walking home from school when shots were fired, killing her and wounding two other teens. The 16-year-old girl and the 17-year-old boy are expected to survive.
Teachers, neighbors and friends have left candles and flowers in a makeshift memorial where Yambo was shot to death.
Gloria Rosa is afraid it is only going to get worse. The shooting leaves her worried for the safety of her son.
“The increase [in gun violence] is really high and I know it’s gonna get really bad when summer comes,” says Rosa. “I get anxiety when he’s not around me.”
On Saturday, police say they arrested 17-year-old Jeremiah Ryan in connection with the shooting. He is expected in court Monday for multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder and criminal possession of a gun.
According to police, Ryan has never been in trouble with the law before and his mother a “hardworking woman.”
"A hardworking woman raising a child that has zero police contact at all and he goes from smoking marijuana to killing someone," said NYPD Deputy Chief Timothy McCormack on Saturday.
Yambo was a student at University Prep. The other two teens attend the South Bronx Educational Campus.
The Department of Education tells News 12 school counselors and NYPD school safety agents will be on site for students on Monday.
