The trial for a New Jersey native accused threatening President Donald Trump online began Monday.

A jury was selected Monday for the trial of 27-year-old Shawn Christy who was raised in Maple Shade, New Jersey. Christy is facing charges in Pennsylvania for allegedly posting threatening messages about the president and Pennsylvania District Attorney John Morganelli online.

Christy was caught in Ohio after a three-month manhunt that spanned six states and into Canada. While on the run, authorities say that he broke into several homes and businesses to steal food, guns and cars.

Christy lived in McAdoo, Pennsylvania when he allegedly made the threats. He was indicted on July 10, 2018. His own mother says that the evidence against him may be too much to overcome.

“It does seem like it's almost impossible. I think a lot of the charges are bogus charges. I think, and I'm hoping that when the jury sits there that they do really, truly have an open mind,” says Karen Christy.

Christie could face several decades in prison if he is convicted.
