The Trenton Police Department is on a recruiting blitz.

The force currently has 380 officers, but now the mayor wants to boost that number by 50 after a call for more manpower on the streets. Recruiters say that finding those officers will be a big challenge considering classes are already hard to fill.

In order to meet its goal for this year, the department needs to find 45 able recruits during this hiring cycle. Recruiters say that means they need more than that to apply in order to find enough to make the cut.

"I?m hoping for at least 300 bodies," Trenton Police Capt. Brian Amantia says.

All applicants must live within city limits and be between the ages of 18 and 35. The department is holding an application drive on Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. in the Trenton High School cafeteria.
