Toys R Us stores around the United States are offering manufacturers coupons for new items when shoppers trade in their old baby equipment beginning Aug. 28.

The Great Trade-In event will offer coupons for 20 percent off new products for 16 participating manufacturers, including Baby Cache, Eddie Bauer, Evenflo and Graco. Officials say the trade-in was triggered by safety recalls on some baby equipment that often gets shared.

Customers can trade in used cribs, car seats, bassinets, strollers, high chairs and other items. The event will last until Sept. 20, though CEO Gerry Storch says the program could be extended.
