For many, spring in the city means one thing - allergies.

With the warmer weather comes seasonal allergies and discomfort.

Dr. Alyson Smith, an allergist at St. Barnabas Hospital says there are many different options for allergy sufferers this spring.

"There's a lot of great over the counter medication. Usually, I like to start with over the counter inter nasal steroid which is a nose spray something like a Flonase," says Dr. Smith.

Dr. Smith also says closing the windows at night and changing you clothes and washing your hair when you get home could also make a big difference.

She says she advises her patients to enjoy the warm weather and not be afraid to ask for help when it comes to allergies.

"On the days that they're low that's a great time to go outside and enjoy the parks but if the pollen levels are really high try to stay inside," says Dr. Smith. "We want you to go outside and be able to go to school and go to work but sometimes you need to go to your doctor."
