Thousands of people crammed into Jersey City's pedestrian mall Tuesday evening for what's being called one of the largest vigils for victims of the Orlando, Florida shooting in New Jersey.
At the vigil the names of the shooting victims were read while the attendees stood together by candlelight.
The LGBT community together with the Jersey City community came out to sing songs and spread a message of peace and unity, while honoring the lives that were lost.
Elmwood Park resident Anita Young says she attended the gathering to show that people can all live together in peace.
"That's what America's about. We celebrate diversity," she says. "I have the opportunity to come here and support my faith and my sexuality. It is a beautiful thing."
One of the first speakers at the vigil was the leader of one of New Jersey's largest Muslim groups.
